The coin is housed in a unique Australian map shaped latex case with a stylised shipper, and is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.

The Perth Mint will release no more than 5,000 of these Didgeridoo 2013 1oz Silver Proof Coins from The Land Down Under series.

Australia is a continent rich in history, cultural diversity and unique habitats. The Perth Mint is proud to present this new series showcasing Australia’s discovery, culture, lifestyle and landmarks.

The didgeridoo is a long, wooden wind instrument made from a hollow branch that has been traditionally used by the Aboriginal people of northern Australia.  The haunting tones are created by the vibrating of the player’s lips.  Since every branch has its own unique shape, no two didgeridoos sound exactly alike.  The composition it creates can be very powerful, with players and listeners often describing it as calming and meditative.
